Echo Park
Historic Resources Group was commissioned by the Echo Park Historical Society to prepare a City of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument application for Echo Park. Echo Park was formally established as a city park in 1892 during a period when the City was actively reacquiring land for public use. It is significant for its role in the growth of City’s first water system, as one of the City’s earliest public parks, and as the site of the oldest existing playground in Los Angeles.
HRG developed historic context related to cultural landscapes and the development of the park system in Los Angeles, documented the development history of Echo Park, and identified the buildings, structures and landscape features that contribute to its historic significance. Echo Park was designated Historic-Cultural Landmark #836 in 2006.
