Constance Hotel
Historic Resources Group provided historic preservation and architectural conservation services for the rehabilitation of the Constance Hotel. Touted in newspaper advertisements as “Pasadena’s new million-dollar hotel,” the Constance Hotel was hailed for its location and upscale clientele when it opened in 1926. Named after owner and developer Mrs. Constance Perry, this 164-room residential hotel was designed for Pasadena’s annual influx of winter residents. Originally a residential hotel with a small wing of retail storefronts, the Constance had most recently been used for senior housing.
The rehabilitation of the Constance and its conversion from senior housing to a boutique hotel was part of a larger mixed-use project including additional hotel rooms, subterranean parking, retail, and office space. HRG worked with the project team to review the proposed rehabilitation of the historic building, assess the compatibility of new construction on the project site, complete the entitlements process, and monitor construction. The project received federal rehabilitation tax credits, and is now designated as a City of Pasadena Historic Landmark.
